Analysis of Opening Sequence “Amelie”

This film opening has many establishing shots, these were used to show the location. The director decided to use these shots are the start of the movie to set up the scene for he audience. This helps the audience understand and get ideas of what the movie is going to be about depending on the place it is set.  The opening sequence also has a lot of mid shots that then zoom into close ups. The director choose to use these shots so that the audience can see the characters looking at objects , then the audience can see it up close for themselves. The close ups help the audience learn about the characters this is important in an opening of a film as it help start off the story.Character establishment is important in a film opening so that the audience knows who he story is about and who it involves. And by establishing characters the audience can get an idea of what type of movie its going to be. An example of character establishment is where Amelie playing by herself the director showed this to give the audience the idea that Amelie is creative, lonely and maybe a bit isolated. By simple thing like mentioning characters name you can establish characters for example in the film opening the father’s and mother’s name is mentioned so we know how they are. In this opening sequence there is minimum dialogue so this means that sound effects are important as it i need to keep the audience interested. The music is parallel to the shots that the directors choose. The director had to choose the correct music to set the mood for the opening sequence. This gives the audience an idea of what the film is going to be about, or at least how the film starts. The creativity of the of the opening sequence is important as it is another way to keep the audience involved and interested. In the film opening  Amelie is matching the credits with her actions . for example when she is Playing with money and the producers name is shown. Another thing creative  is as a man dies in the opening sequence it then shows how another begins  this  showing how life goes on and its a chain of events.

The director decided tha it would be creative Credits are used in a shown on cut out drawings. As the drawings look childish shows movie was maybe about a childhood. I did not enjoy the opening of the film I don’t think it appealed to me. The opening was boring and it didn’t hook me and want me to watch more.
